A: I taught special education for 35 years. The first 2 in a resource room in an elementary school. I then taught emotional disturbed high school girls in a self contained class for 2 years. Boys were added the third year. I then taught history, English, geography, economics, and political science to groups of emotionally disturbed, mildly retarded and/or learning disabled high school students for 19 years. My last 9 years, I taught severely and profoundly disabled high school boys and girls.
Q: 2. What is your opinion on cartoons that make fun of or stereotype disabilities?
A: There is something seriously wrong with any one or group that makes fun of the disabled. Stereotyping any group, disabled or not, is also wrong.
Q: 3. Do you or have you watched cartoons at one point of your life? Did they ever seem offensive?
A: I’m sure that sometime in my life, I have seen cartoons making fun of people with disabilities and I’m sure I was offended at the time.
